Definition
Each step has a defined purpose, data, and responsible role.
A workflow is a system representation of how work proceeds from the event that starts a process, through tasks and decisions, to completion. It defines the sequence of steps, participant roles, required data, deadlines, exceptions, and conditions for moving forward. A workflow can route an invoice to the appropriate approvers, send an employee request to HR, or direct a contract to legal review. A well-designed workflow displays status and responsibility, preserves history, and handles nonstandard situations. It does not mean automating everything—some steps require a deliberate human decision. See how we implement Process Automation.
