Software architecture is a set of technical decisions that defines the components of a system, what each component is responsible for, and how they work together. It covers areas such as the division into modules, data storage, integrations, permissions, scaling, monitoring, and the deployment of changes. Good architecture results from business requirements and constraints, including the number of users, process criticality, existing systems, and team capabilities. It is not a one-time diagram, but a foundation for informed decisions throughout development. It should also describe failures, recovery, and boundaries of responsibility.
