Middleware is software that operates between applications or services. It handles tasks that should not be duplicated in every system: communication, authentication, format mapping, queues, event logging, and error handling. An intermediary layer may, for example, receive a document from a workflow, transform the data into the ERP format, forward it, and record the result of the operation. Middleware makes it easier to decouple systems, but it becomes an important element of the entire process and therefore requires monitoring, security, and clear maintenance ownership. Middleware may take the form of a custom service, an integration platform, or a set of cloud components. Explore Astrafox integrations.
