MRP, or material requirements planning, is a method for planning material needs. It uses the production plan, bill of materials, inventory levels, open orders, and lead times to determine which materials will be needed and when they should be ordered or produced. MRP is usually part of an ERP system that supports manufacturing and logistics. The quality of the plan depends on accurate master data, bills of materials, inventory, and dates, so running the calculations alone does not resolve inconsistent data. The results feed purchase and production order proposals, which are then evaluated by the responsible staff. Explore Astrafox ERP solutions.
